The Gasworks Choir is a community choir of over 150 people in Bristol, UK. We were 10 years old in September 2007!
The Gasworks Choir and Gasworks Singers are directed by Dee Jarlett and Ali Orbaum. There are no auditions and we welcome beginners and experienced singers alike. They also directed and sang with Naked Voices, a professional band who tour arts centres and festivals.
Ali and Dee, along with their colleagues Chris Samuel and Fran Bolton run singing workshops and holidays known as Sing Your Socks Off. Click here to check out the website and see what is offered.
The Gasworks Choir perform a diverse repertoire of songs, mostly arranged by Dee and Ali. Their material ranges from pop, soul and gospel to folk and funk, with ethnic songs from around the world as well as the occasional classical piece.
The workshops for the Gasworks Choir meet fortnightly in groups of 35-40 during Autumn and Spring terms on Monday or Tuesday evenings or Wednesday afternoons. There are between 5 to 7 group workshops each term of these small groups held at the wonderful recently extended Gasworks Studios in St Werburghs, Bristol.
We also include a couple of rehearsals all together in a larger hall before our end of term concert in St Georges (a wonderful old church with fabulous acoustics that is situated off Park St in Great George St, and converted to a music venue with bar and restaurant holding 550 people).
Every term there are also optional extra rehearsals for small group and more advanced songs for those who want more.
Dee and Ali also run harmony singing workshops all over the UK and are part of The Natural Voice Practitioners Network.
